Where the Wind Blows – Presence
Shun Art Gallery Tokyo is pleased to present “Where the Wind Blows – Presence”, a solo exhibition by ayaka nakamura, on view from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, July 26, 2026. Through multilayered lines and colors, ayaka nakamura visualizes the traces of life.
Wind cannot be seen.
And yet, through its movement and subtle presence, we are able to unmistakably feel “existence.”
Starting from the idea that “existence is born through the presence of other lives,” nakamura continues to create paintings and video works that explore this invisible connection.
The countless overlapping lines, the wavering blue-toned palette, and the organically spreading textures within her works evoke nature, memory, and the circulation of life.
This exhibition centers on new works exploring what the artist describes as the “presence of life,” a theme she has pursued in recent years.
Rather than depicting landscapes or nature directly, the works reflect the atmosphere, memories, and unseen energies flowing within them.
While abstract in expression, the works awaken dormant landscapes and sensations within each viewer, generating a quiet and intimate dialogue.
Transcending concrete forms, they resonate deeply with bodily memory and perception, gradually revealing the contours of invisible “existence.”
Standing before the works, viewers may find themselves quietly confronting memories and sensations hidden deep within.
Like a passing wind, “Presence” cannot be touched, yet it can certainly be felt.
We hope this exhibition offers visitors a moment away from everyday life — a chance to listen closely to overlooked sensations and reconnect with their own inner awareness.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
