Bio

Gan Yu is a New York-based artist, curator and educator. Originally from Shanghai of China, Gan Yu completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University and is currently the Professor of Art and PhD supervisor at Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai University. Gan Yu received his Ph.D. in Chinese Painting from China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China and his M.A. in Studio Art from Minnesota State University in the USA.

Gan Yu has had solo exhibitions at Ethan Cohen KUBE Art Center of New York, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Art Gallery, Minnesota State University-Mankato Art Gallery, Yale-China Association of Yale University and Hammond Museum of New York. Gan Yu has also exhibited in group shows at many museums and galleries, such as Ethan Cohen Gallery and Ethan Cohen KUBE, VOLTA Basel Art Fair, Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary, Asia Art Miami, The National Art Museum of China, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Shanghai Art Museum, China Academy of Art Museum, St. Johns University Art Gallery, and many others. Gan Yu’s curatorial projects include art exhibitions and events at Harvard University, Yale University, State University of New York, China Academy of Art, Islip Art Museum, and Ethan Cohen KUBE of New York, etc.

Gan Yu has conducted lectures, courses and workshops of Chinese Brush Painting and Calligraphy at various institutions including Harvard University Art Museum, The Art Students League of New York, The Dept of History of Art + Architecture, Harvard University, City University of New York, Minnesota State University, Shanghai University, The Islip Art Museum, Hammond Museum, Katonah Museum of Art, etc.
