1970 Born in Urawa, Saitama, Japan. 1998 Graduated from Tokyo University, majoring in Sociology. Ryo Mizuno lives and works in Tokyo. Although he was not born with a major in art, Ryo Mizuno has never given up his art as he loves to paint. While working at a Japanese game company, he devotes himself to his favourite painting after work every day.
Since 2001, Ryo Mizuno’s group and solo exhibitions have been held in various galleries and museums in Japan, and he has won numerous painting awards (Taro Okamoto Memorial Prize for Contemporary Art, Philip Morris K.K Art Prize, Tokyo Wonder Wall Prize, and Shell Art Prize). Ryo Mizuno uses pencils and ink pens to create countless mysterious creatures flowing naturally from his hands. The speed of his drawings is so fluid that it exceeds the viewer’s imagination as if one can feel the hues of the images darkening, forcing the viewer to use all their senses to capture the details that emerge from the deep darkness. The artist maintains a calmness towards the real world but is full of imagination in another dream-like parallel space, where he is God, dominating the bodies, emotions, thoughts and energies of these diverse creatures.
